Katti Powell will be returning to the Talent Quest National Finals in Laughlin, NV. At the National Competition, contestants can participate in daily singing workshops throughout the day in two locations and purchase various Powell Method products including Basic Practice CDs, Advanced Practice CDs, and more! The Powell Method will also be giving away prize packages for the 6 category 1st place winners and a daily prize for the Lounge contest winners. POWELL METHOD SINGING WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE AT NATIONALS!
The Powell Method is the #1 Vocal Instruction Program for Professional Singers combining expertise in multiple singing techniques, multiple genres of music, vocal health, and song interpretation. Katti Powell, the Founder of The Powell Method, along with Certified Powell Method Instuctor Colleen Rushton, will be offering various singing workshops to singers at Talent Quest Nationals in Laughlin, NV. All workshops will be held in the Coronado Room at the Tropicana and at (TBA) at the River Palms at the times listed below. All workshops cost $20. Online registration is HIGHLY recommended as these workshops will fill up quickly.
WORKSHOPS:
BASICS OF TECHNIQUE: $20. This is our most popular workshop! Learn the basics of breathing, supporting the sound, vocal stamina, basic technique, how to stay healthy & not lose your voice, and easy-to-learn vocal warm-ups. River Palms: M – 11:30 am & 2:00 pm, W & Th – 11:30 am. Tropicana: M & T – 11:30 am,
W – 2:00 pm.
CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUES & TRICKS: $20. Learn the basics of transforming the voice into a more contemporary sound using two contemporary vocal techniques. Learn to sing contemporary styles in a completely healthy way that prevents singers from losing the voice. Learn why it is vital to have a basic foundation for contemporary singing. Learn how to use the two vocal techniques together and round out the sound with some great tricks & tips. River Palms: T – 11:30 am & 2:00 pm, W & Th – 2:00 pm. Tropicana: M, T, & Th – 2:00 pm.
PERFORMANCE SKILLS & COMPETITION STRATEGIES: $20. Learn how to choose a song that fits you and pleases your audience. Also, learn some competition strategies for selecting your songs and selecting the order in which you sing them. Learn how to connect emotionally to your song and how to get your audience into your performance. Learn the “dos & don’ts” of performing onstage (including mic technique) plus dealing with nerves and memorization. Also, learn how to “look the part” for your song. Tropicana (only): M – 4:30 pm, W & Th – 11:30 am.
EVALUATIONS: $20. Have an opportunity to sing a portion of one of your songs for the class in order to receive feedback and helpful critique on your vocals, stage presence, and appearance. When it isn’t your turn to sing, you will get the chance to see the competition from the judge’s side of the table by offering helpful feedback and critique as well as hearing the instructor’s feedback and critique – all of these things will help you to improve as a singer. This class will be offered every day so come as often as you want! Class size will be limited for this to allow everyone a chance to sing so register early if you’d like to ensure a space. Tropicana (only): M – 5:30 pm, T, W, Th – 4:30 pm.
PRIVATE LESSONS: You asked for private lessons last year – so this year you get them! We have added Certified Powell Method Instructor, Colleen Rushton, this year who will be teaching some of these workshops, offering the same vocal warm-up, and also giving private one-on-one lessons to anyone interested for only $40! River Palms or TBA: daily starting @4:30 pm, all day Friday.
WRITTEN CRITIQUES: This year, you can drop off your purchased DVD to us and receive a next-day written critique of your performance for only $10. FREE
VOCAL WARM-UPS! At both venues, take advantage of our free vocal warm-ups at 10:15 am and at 3:15 pm. This thorough vocal warm-up will be just what you need (and more!) to perform your song to its best. KATTI POWELL, FOUNDER OF THE POWELL METHOD
Katti is a graduate of the Musical Program at New York City's Circle in the Square Theatre School and started out as a performer, primarily singing & acting in musical theatre. Over her years of performing, she was approached many times by people wanting to know if she could teach them how to sing. Katti took her years of experience as a singer and a voice student plus lots of research and developed The Powell Method. She has been teaching private voice professionally since 2001. She launched her online Instructor Certification Program for teachers in 2009 as a way to duplicate her efforts. By teaching singers The Powell Method and giving them the tools to teach, she is able to help singers worldwide learn how to sing with versatility. Katti has studied and performed a wide variety of musical styles including classical, opera, musical theatre, gospel, pop, country, jazz, R&B, and rock. She is a professional jazz vocalist and has also been the lead vocalist in the NJ-based 80s band, The Breakfast Club and in the Denver-based classic rock band, See Alice. Katti is also a proud member of Actor's Equity Association, the professional actor's union, and performs professionally in regional theatre. She has performed in over 75 musicals, plays, and cabaret acts in many cities. Katti has also done some studio recording and has coached students during recording sessions. In addition to performing and teaching, she has been a vocal coach, a musical director, a director, an acting instructor, a choir director, and a worship leader. Katti currently teaches private voice & workshops to singers all over the U. S.
